Built as a 2CL in 1975, what would be the modern (i.e. Freighrail/FreightCorp) code for this bogie??
It is a National bogie with sideframe mounted friction wedges.
Please comment with your thoughts.
Enjoy!
Keep informed with professional quality images of interesting rollingstock from around Australia.
It would be an XCL.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the friction wedges being in the sideframe indicates that it was a bogie of Industrial Steels manufacture to a "National" design. This was the competitor to Bradford Kendall (now Bradken) who manufactured Ride Control bogies, licenced from American Steel Foundries (ASF).
ReplyDeleteG'day RI,
DeleteI agree it would be an XCL (being a former 2CL), but XCL is still an older code. I am looking for a post 1980 code - of which one does not seem to exist.
Also, Industrial Steels are not recorded for making 2CL or XCL bogies - only BK and Com Steel. I suspect the CSC cast mark is Com Steel. It is likely that Industrial Steels became Com Steel.
Cheers
Chris
Now known as a XLA bogie.
