SPCS Ballast Hoppers

Managed to get these after attending a safety induction at Port Kembla.

  1. Where are these ballast hoppers from originally? The SPCS code doesn't make much sense to me...

  2. As advised by guru Dougie, there were build new for Southern Portland Cement (SPC) to carry limestone. They then carried coal (and got hungry boards).

    The code is a custom job as they were internal network wagons only for SPC, although at some stage would have operated on the NSWGR network so would have been registered.

    The standard ROA coding only came in around 1980, so they ddin't need to meet any coding standards way back when.
